Discover the Comeragh Mountains at your own pace. Beautiful lakeside walks, well-maintained paths, and stunning Waterford views designed for older adults who love the outdoors.
The Comeragh Mountains change beautifully throughout the year. Here's what to expect on the trails at different times.
Wildflowers bloom along the paths. Temperatures mild, around 8-12°C. Great for steady pacing without overheating. Streams are full but crossings are manageable.
Long daylight hours mean early morning starts or afternoon walks. Warmest season at 15-18°C. Paths are dry and easiest to navigate. Popular times, so go early for quiet walks.
Golden light and fewer crowds. Temperature around 10-14°C. Paths can get wet and slippery from fallen leaves. Wear good grip boots. Visibility is excellent on clear days.
Colder at 3-8°C but frost makes paths crisp. Days are short, so stick to well-lit hours. Some higher paths may be closed. Lakeside routes stay open. Bring layers and a headlamp.
Most upland walks aren't designed with older walkers in mind. These are different.
Loose rocks and uneven terrain cause stumbles and twisted ankles
No clear markers — easy to get lost and add extra distance
Long steep sections force knees to work too hard
Remote routes mean no nearby help if you need a break
Weather changes fast with nowhere to shelter
Well-maintained paths with solid footing. No scrambling or technical sections
Clear waymarking and simple loops — you won't get lost or add extra miles
Gentle grades. Even the climbs are steady and manageable, not punishing
Parking and facilities nearby. You're never far from rest or help
Scenic lakeside sections provide shelter and make the walk feel special
